I don’t know where to even start with Mexico. It is like a fabulous, gorgeous, much cheaper version of Europe. I was quite surprised as I expected it to be more similar to the countries in Central America, but it is quite different and much more similar to Europe.

Before I came here the images I associated with Mexico were tequila, cactus, sombreros, VW beetles, dodgy people, tacos and enchiladas… Mexico is all of this (except not many dodgy people) and so much more. Now when I think of Mexico I think of the warm and friendly people, how alive everything is, gorgeous beaches, fabulous ruins, the lucha libre and the fantastic colonial towns… really why wouldn’t you come here??!
The bus system is excellent and it is very easy to get around the country. We felt safe and the poverty is hidden to the average tourist. Everything is cheap and good value for money. Mexico City has been our favourite place so far and we could have spent a long time there. Think it is a shame that so many people avoid it because of its dangerous reputation. Mexico is a huge country though and we only saw a sample of what’s on offer.
The climate was great everywhere we went so would have to think that winter is the best time to come here. It is easier to get here from Australia than people think as is easy to get to LA and from there it’s an easy plane or bus trip to Mexico. We shall definitely be back!
