Before I went to Estonia, I knew very little about this country apart from its location, that it was part of the Soviet Union and that it one of the best places to be in the world if you rely on the internet!
Thankfully, I walked away knowing far more and having had an awesome experience in this small Baltic nation. Our Estonia travel blog details our experience exploring the beautiful capital of Tallinn. This city is just stunning and we loved our time here. You can read all about it in our full guide.
Traveling to Estonia and travel in Estonia is very easy. We came here on the ferry from Helsinki and left via the Lux Express bus to Latvia. Both of these options are super fast, easy and comfortable. There are also many flights from many destinations. You can read more about getting around the Baltics here.
Walking into Tallinn’s Old Town with our kids
We visited Estonia with our two preschoolers. We found it an incredibly easy country to visit with kids.
Our kids were always welcome everywhere and plenty of attractions and restaurants catered to kids. Several restaurants we visited in Tallinn had play areas and most the museums we visited had kids’ activities. We were all very happy here.
We stayed at the Sokos Hotel Viru in Estonia which was just awesome!
The view from the hotel – just brilliant
We not only had a great family room complete with bunk beds, kid items (like a potty and special crockery!) and a microwave, but this hotel had an interesting history with KGB agents being stationed at the hotel during Soviet times. It was very interesting to do a tour at the hotel and learn more.
It is also in a brilliant spot. It is just a short walk from the Old Town of Tallinn and has a shopping centre and bus terminal downstairs! It also has trams and sightseeing buses going past. It was just perfect.
